Canadian Lemon Bread

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
6 tablespoons shortening
1 cup sugar
zest of one lemon
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 1/2 cups flour
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup whole milk
1/2 cup walnut pieces (optional)
Glaze
1/2 cup sugar
juice of one lemon
Make the glaze and let it stand while the bread is baking.
Cream shortening and sugar together until creamy. Add eggs and milk, mix well. Add salt, baking powder, and flour, mix well. Pour into greased 1 quart bread pan and let rise for 20 minutes. Bake for 45 minutes or until done. While the bread is still warm remove from pan and brush the top and sides with the glaze.
