Homemade pickles. When I was growing up my mom, during the summer, made watermelon pickles. I never cared for them, but I was always fascinated at what ingredients it took. Many years later, one of our neighbors gave me a jar of Refrigerated Bread and Butter Pickles. I fell in love with them! Rather than asking Thelma for another bottle of those heavenly pickles, I asked her for the recipe (the recipe is here under this category). I made them and was so happy!
Recently a friend gave me a large English cucumber. I have in my fridge a large bottle of cucumber chip pickles. I've heard that if you have alot of the liquid left from pickles, you can add sliced up cucumbers to it and it will pickle the cucumbers. So, with that in mind, I added my cut-up English cucumber to the jar. It was well over a month since I did that and just the other day I tried one of the new pickle slices. Other than the pickles that had been in the jar when I bought it and they were a darker color and my English cucumber slices being a lighter color - I couldn't tell the difference between them! They tasted exactly the same! Don't waste your money on making a new batch of pickles everytime you run out of pickles. Choose a cucumber you like to eat, add it to the liquid that is left over in the pickle bottle, give it about 10 days, and you'll have fresh pickles!
