White House Muffins

1/3 cup soft butter
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1-1/2 cups sifted flour
1 tablespoon double-acting baking powder
2/3 cup milk
Combine the butter, sugar, and egg and beat until light and fluffy. Combine the flour and baking powder and sift together. Add to butter mixture, alternately with milk. Fill twelve greased muffin pans 2/3 full of the batter. Bake in ahotoven (400 degrees F) for 20 minutes.
Yield 1 dozen
